Portrait Drawing Workshop 27-28 May 2023
Portrait and Figure Drawing: 2 day intensive course, 10-1pm & 2-5pm, Saturday – Sunday.
12 hours of instruction | video recording of demonstrations to take home
Over two days participants will undertake a range of studies and exercises, from live portrait sketching to studies of master works by Rembrandt and Ribera, in conte and charcoal. Participants will learn the fundamentals of line, gesture, proportion and composition, how to prepare a tinted ground, the partial merging of subject and ground, and the organisation of space according to masses of shadow and light.
All sessions will be aided by individual assistance/critique, and instructor demonstrations, which will be video recorded and sent on to participants after the workshop.
Experience level: whilst beginners are welcome, some drawing experience is recommended.
A3 Sketchbook, 160 gsm minimum. Red conte, willow charcoal, compressed charcoal, pencils 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B.
