Portrait Drawing Workshop 27 July 2024

Portrait and Figure Drawing: 1 day intensive course, 10-1pm & 2-5pm, Saturday.

Over the day participants will undertake a range of studies and exercises, from live portrait sketching to studies of master works by Rembrandt and Ribera, in conte and charcoal. Participants will learn the fundamentals of line, gesture, proportion and composition, how to prepare a tinted ground, the partial merging of subject and ground, and the organisation of space according to masses of shadow and light.

All sessions will be aided by individual assistance/critique, and instructor demonstrations.

Experience level: whilst beginners are welcome, some drawing experience is recommended.

Materials Required

A3 Sketchbook, 160 gsm minimum. Red conte, willow charcoal, compressed charcoal, pencils 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B.
